ABOUT NATV
NATV is the acronym for Native American Television, Inc.; the
first nonprofit Native American multimedia broadcasting network and
technology training news organization located in the Washington, DC.
metropolitan area.
Our primary vehicle for initial distribution of NATV, Native
American Television content, is our websites located at www.natvonline.org. MySpace users
can connect with our blog at
www.myspace.com/natvonline.
MISSION STATEMENT
NATV’s
mission is to train Native Americans to use multimedia
technology to improve and enhance communication among Tribal Nations
while informing and educating our fellow Americans about Native
American heritage & culture; language & issues; visual arts
& entertainment.
GOALS
To create a nationwide
grassroots network of
multimedia-trained and politically savvy news reporters; TV, Radio and
Internet anchors; and multimedia technicians who will provide news and
information to and from both rural and urban tribal communities
throughout America;
To establish a
nationwide, nonprofit Native American
Television multimedia broadcasting network in the Washington, D.C.
metropolitan area;
To establish a
permanent technology training
center and institute in Washington, D.C. that offers professional
certification (and/or provides college course credit in cooperation
with colleges and universities) to Native American students in areas of
Broadcasting, Digital Studio/ Field Production; Web Development and
Information Technology; while offering educational courses in
Journalism, Governmental Awareness and Environmental Studies;
To control our own
message and how it is
presented in all areas of the news, public affairs, culture, and
entertainment; and to do so in a responsible, honorable cutting-edge
manner—through an effective, powerful, visual and technological medium.
TRANSITION
TO A DIGITAL FUTURE
Today,
with more and more news organizations moving toward 24/7
multimedia coverage, NATV is using the Internet and digital technology
as its primary means of communication and—in keeping with NATV’s
mission—focusing on training to help Native American students become
more competitive in a global environment. Just as acquiring
technology skills in Web Development and Multimedia Production will
enhance a student’s ability to obtain technology-related jobs, NATV’s
courses in Journalism, Environmental Studies and Governmental Awareness
will enable students to develop a more thorough understanding of the
News Media as well learning about the environment and how the American
federal government works. With studio production and training
facilities located in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, NATV is
convenient to America’s newsmakers.
